Healthcare IT

Strategy

A 'solution' to a pain point has many interpretations. And surprisingly some of the interpretations could be contradictory depending on which 'hat' you wear.  To quote an example, a solution that is successfully helps hundreds of hospitals could be termed 'Successful' by the hospital Administrators and clinicians. Yet if the solution does not make the required revenues it could be termed unsuccessful, or worse still, a disaster by the share holders! True success is a 3 way win where the users, the vendors and the solution owners are happy.

...And this can only come out of a very carefully designed strategy. Healthcare IT is a very temperamental beast that is more prone to failures than successes because of the very complex (and contradictory) needs of healthcare. No single group can guarantee success. A team comprising of Clinicians, IT experts and Marketing experts  guided by a seasoned veteran with years of experience in ALL three domains would improve the success rate greatly. The toughest job is the ability to keep these 3 diverse (and volatile) groups talking productively and working towards a practical solution and that is what HCit Consultant excels in.

Therefore if you need success, think STRATEGY before any thing else.

So call us, let us help you do it the right way.

Integration

The issue: Today, business process optimization is a mandatory process for Healthcare providers desiring lowering of costs (thereby higher profitability) and one of the key optimizers is Application integration. A hospital may run as much as a thousand applications that do not interact with each other. This leads to, amongst others, the following inefficiencies:

  • Repeated data entry with its costs of time, equipment and resources

  • Increased probability of errors in data entry

  • Duplication of activities

  • Lack of synchronicity

  • Clinician difficulty in viewing patient data holistically

  • Multiple logins and increase in password issues

  • Increased costs of training

The solution: The solution to all these issues is Enterprise Healthcare Application Integration. Simply allow all your applications to talk to each other and share data. Your doctors will immediately be able to see data in a simplified integrated interface making it easier to read, assess and treat patients. Mistakes due to data entry, duplicate entries, orphaned notes, etc will be  a thing of the past and improved efficiencies will obviously lead to improved quality of healthcare.

The ideal way to do all this is to use the international standard in healthcare messaging - HL7. We support you with 'end to end' integration, using the world's leading open-source integration engine Mirthconnet©.

Call us to carry out a complete integration cycle at your hospital. From discovery, to strategy, solutioning, training, implementation and if required, operational management. Call Dr Lavanian at +91 9970921266 today... or email ceo@hcitconsultant.com

Partnerships

Today business is all about partnerships. Producing a well tuned  solution for a client requires partnering with likeminded entities to deliver a best of breeds solution. This methodology ensures . This is a win-win-win. The client gets the best possible solution, your partner gets extra business (and passes on similar opportunities to you) and you ensure that that no client is left un-serviced or refused. The major issue here is finding the right mix of partners and each project would require a different mix. This is where HCitC comes in. With our contacts, partners and  vendors in every part of the globe we study your client's requirements and put together a 'Best -of-Breeds' solution for you. We carry out all the required steps, right from finding, studying, selecting and putting together a consortium with all the paper work included. Quoting an example, an IT major in Singapore wanted to bid for a large project but had no core competencies in the specific sub-domain. HCitC pulled in companies from around the world put together a best-of-breeds solution, bound the partners into a consortium and presented the ready Solution document to the client.

Software design support

Software is not about having a handful of programmers writing code at break neck speed. Healthcare with its convoluted needs, requires a proper analysis to be carried out not only from the clinoco-informatics point of view but also from the needs of busy, temperamental, over worked (and some times short tempered ) clinicians. These clinicians (rightly) have no patience for an application that increases their work load, causes more errors, does not follow there work process or requires them to learn a complex new skill. Improper or faulty design have made even the largest of IT companies bankrupt and history is witness to that.

Next there is the conundrum of 'Make' vs 'buy' .... does it make sense to reinvent the wheel or integrate with an already available solution. Unfortunately there is no right or wrong answer each client is unique.

So call us, let us help you do it the right way.

Clinical work flow design

A solution meant for the clinician or health care worker is meant to resolve HIS needs and HIS pain points. Therefore ensuring that YOUR solution does this means acknowledging, understanding and  designing YOUR solution to click-fit into HIS work flows. This also means doing a through study during every implementation as work flows vary from hospital to hospital and even department to department.

So call us, let us help you do it the right way.

Clinical Care Pathways design

Clinical / Care pathways, also know as critical pathways, care paths, integrated care pathways, case management plans, clinical care pathways or care maps, are used to systematically plan and follow up a patient focused care program. This is a highly technical subject and requires a clinician who is also an IT expert to help with the design. Since there are hundreds of pathways and each hospital can use variations of the same pathway. You require clinical expertise to show the way.

So call us, let us help you do it the right way.

Ergonomy-Human engineering

Ergonomy in simple words, is all about doing work in the correct and most convenient way. Software design is not just about putting together a database linking it to an UI and dropping so many textboxes, list boxes, buttons, etc. There is a science behind which controls need to be placed where, in what order, of what color, in what format and with what kind of instructions.  It requires a deep understanding of the human factors involved  in audio-visual clues, blind spots, social engineering, etc. To assess the fit between a person and the used technology, ergonomists consider the job (activity) being done and the demands on the user; the equipment used (its size, shape, and how appropriate it is for the task), and the information used (how it is presented, accessed, and changed). Ergonomics draws on many disciplines in its study of humans and their environments, including anthropometry, biomechanics, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, industrial design, kinesiology, physiology and psychology ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ergonomics) . The grim news is that bad human engineering/ergonomy in HC IT applications can, at the best, lead to user stress and RSI (Repetitive Stress Injuries) BUT at  worst lead to errors, disability and death of patients. The success of an application can, to an extent, be dependent on Human engineering. So before you release your application into the market, get it assessed by HCitC.

Interoperability design

Not every hospital IT project will start with a clean sheet. 99% of the time the requirement is to address client perceived pain points while including already existing applications into the  overall solution. Not an easy task and the answer is different for each client.

So call us, let us help you do it the right way.
